HISTORY

The Allegheny Rugby Union is a non-profit corporation whose objective is to promote, serve, and manage the game of rugby union in the Allegheny area, at all levels of play. Founded in the early 1970’s, the Allegheny area is the region described as Western Pennsylvania, Western New York, Northern West Virginia and Eastern Ohio bordering Pennsylvania in the United States of America. The Allegheny Rugby Union is one of the largest local area unions (LAU’s) of the Midwest Rugby Football Union (MRFU) and USA Rugby.

The ARU continues to reach new and better heights as 2009 saw the Pittsburgh Angels finish second in the Women’s Senior National Tournament, the Pittsburgh Rugby Club finish as the #1 seed in the Midwest in Division II Senior Men and the Slippery Rock University Women make it to the National Tournament for the second straight year. 2010 promises to be even better!
